Shane, Lee-Anne and
Daniel (Shane's cousin) all arrived at Glenbrook just before 7.00pm for
7.30pm departure. Ian & Margaret arrived 7.45pm or there about and after a
little chat we stopped at Lithgow for a cuppa. We arrived in Bathurst around
9.30pm.
After a bad
night Friday we headed for the Bathurst Information Centre who advised us
that we could camp in the Showground and gave us the telephone number of the
caretaker. The cost was quite reasonable, however we needed to discuss it
amongst the 5 of us, so we went and had breakfast next door in the coffee
shop. The breakfast was nice and I would recommend eating there for the
breakfast. They also have lunch and dinner, sometimes eating macca's is not
always good.

We decided to camp at
the showground (which is just across the road from the information centre)
for the rest of the weekend. They had markets, an auction and on Saturday
night the trots were on. The cost of camping with the car was $20 and Ian
& Margaret's camper trailer was $50 for the
rest of the weekend (not each night which was good).
So to the
showground we went and set up camp asap as we had the most important thing
to do which was to go to Mount Panorama to drive around the track. We all
had the same passion but not as much as what Ian had. We took photos and
video of us all on poll position. Driving around the track was such a hoot
we all envy those drivers who drive around the track but not at the speed
they do. We all have respect for them more then ever before. Even though
the speed limit is 60, when I drove for the umth time, I decided that I
would not put my foot on the brake, but do the 60 klm's just to see what it
felt like, but when we got to the hair pins the boys were a bit scared so I
had to brake. Ian & Margaret finally caught up with us and I said just
jokingly lets go in the reserve direction which is what we did & it was so
weird.

Ian could have stayed
there all day just driving around the track but we had other places to go to
and one was the museum. Wow what a place we had our photo taken out the
front and inside was just amazing. If you don't know what to do in
Bathurst, well driving around the track and going to the museum are around 2
things you can do.
After a good day we
headed back to camp around 5.00pm and we had nibbles and sat around talking
about what we were going to do Sunday. About 6.30 - 7.00pm we headed over
for dinner which was a good hearty country dinner and then watched the
trots. I believe Ian had a bet and lost however Daniel also had a bet and
won. Well done. After our night at the
trots we turned in as it was bit of an early start the next day.

Sunday we headed off to Abercrombie House which has 2 tours - 11.00am (which
we just missed) the other was a 2.00pm. Ian was eager to go and see the
Dinosaur & Gem museum which we did to fill in time. What a place, you just
don't know what you are walking on when you head bush. Abercrombie House is
amazing with its 55 or there about rooms. It’s another place worth visiting
to hear about its history before the
current owner moved in with his family. By the time the tour ended and we
had our High Tea of Devonshire Tea, which Ian and I fought over, it was time
for us to head back to camp and discuss whether we were going home early or
late and was there anywhere else we wanted to go. I said I would like to
take Shane over to see Hill end.

Monday morning we
packed up and headed over to Hill End and were there in time for brunch so
we thought why not. Their pies and sausages rolls were to die for. The
owner did a course in pastry however by trade he is a plumber. For a quick
trip over to Hill End it was worth it for the pies and
rolls.
Thank you Ian and
Margaret.
